In the months of July
and August it is apricot hayday in the Wachau!
The traditional apricot festival takes place this year from Friday 17th to Sunday 19th July 2009.
The Apricot
festival: plentiful apricots!
Find typical apricot specialities such as
apricot dumplings, apricot
schnapps, apricot jam, and many many more
at the apricot festival. Enjoy folkloric dance, shows
and songs, and dance music at night.
You will have the opportunity
to see the beautiful folkloric Wachau costumes with their traditional
golden threaded hoods!
The Wachau apricot,
a protective designation of origin brandnamed by the European Union,
is famous for its uniquetaste. The Wachau has
an estimated 100.000 apricot trees growing on 350 hectares of orchards. Two
thirds of the apricots are directly bought at the fruit farms
located between Melk and Krems.
Culinary delights with plentiful apricots will be served to aou during the entire season in our à la carte restaurant. Of course we suggest tasting apricot sparkling wine or some of our best fine wines from Wachau ans why not try some apricot schnapps to finish off the day in a light-hearted spirit.
