ON THE DANUBE BIKE TRAIL
Probably Europe’s most famous bike path.
An especially beautiful
stretch meanders through the Wachau!
Emmersdorf is an ideal destination at the end of a daily stage
along the Danube Bike Trail. As “The Biking Village in the Wachau”, we
want to offer our visitors cycling as an enjoyable element of any
vacation.
Parallel to the mighty Danube, the bike trail winds its way
through Austria. A total length of 365 kilometres, stretching form the
Bavarian city of Passau, to Hainburg on the border with Slovakia. The
260 km-long stretch of the Danube Bike Trail through Lower
Austria provides an exceptional way to discover the region’s famous and
less-well-known treasures. The trail runs almost entirely along tow paths
directly on the banks of the Danube.
Located along the trail are, for
example: the magnificent Baroque abbeys of Melk and Göttweig, and the imposing castles & ruins. A plethora of
stopping points, all of which deserve to be extensively explored and
enjoyed. Bridges in Ybbs, Pöchlarn, Melk and Krems, along with ferries in
Marbach, Spitz, Weissenkirchen and Dürnstein, make switching from the northern
to the southern banks a simple matter.
Side trips into the hinterland –
for example, into the gently rolling hill country of the Mostviertel south of
the Danube, or to the Wald- and Weinviertel to the river’s north, or to the
Vienna Woods which flank the Austrian capital, Vienna – are possible in many
places, with signs displaying important information along all the routes or you
can book one of the beautiful guided bike
trips!
A landscape to fall in love with, one with deeply
rooted and fondly embraced traditions. Enjoy a relaxing bike ride along the
Danube, just as the mood takes you.
